Holy Week 2014

Our Lenten journey heightens during the final week before Easter. This year, St. James is offering an opportunity for worship and spiritual growth each day. We hope that you will take the time to participate in as much as you are able.

Palm/Passion Sunday- April 13

Worship 8am, 9:30am and 6:00pm (at 9:30am we will have a children's palm procession)

Monday - April 14

Show me the Love: exploring the Passion of John (7:00 - 8:30 pm). Pastor Walt will be offering a special Bible Study on the Passion account from the Gospel of John. Come learn some of the amazing details of this powerful gospel story and how they relate to our lives.

Tuesday - April 15

Walk the Labyrinth - (7:00pm - 9:00pm). St. James will host a time of prayer & reflection utilizing the canvas labyrinth from the St. Paul Area Synod. Labyrinths have been used over the centuries by faithful peoples as a tool for prayer and spiritual practice that has led to new understandings and deeper personal connections with God. Come participate in this unique experience and learn how the Labyrinth might be a resource of spiritual growth for you.

Wednesday - April 16

7:30pm - Worship of Preparation and Penitence at St. James. Taken from historical Lutheran worship of nearly a century ago, this non-communion service seeks to prepare us for the great Three Days of worship (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter). Come participate and make ready for the celebrations to come.

Thursday - April 17

Maundy Thursday worship (noon and 7:30pm) New this year is a noon time worship opportunity for those who have difficulty driving at night. Noon worship is designed to be no more than thirty-five minutes allowing you to attend over lunch time. Our evening worship will feature communion and the stripping of the altar table Come participate and worship at the start of the Three Days.

Friday - April 18

Good Friday (Children's worship - 10:00am; Nails at the Cross - Noon; Tenebrae - 7:30pm) This year we will offer three distinct opportunities to worship on this solemn day. Children's worship provides a child-size approach to the events of Jesus' Passion. Nails at the Cross - new this year - is an interactive non-communion worship experience at noon that will involve a series of readings around the cross. This worship will be at noon allowing for those who have difficulty driving at night to attend and is designed to be no more than forty five minutes. Finally, our Tenebrae 7:30pm is worship that occurs midst light and darkness and focuses our attention on the crucifixion.

Saturday - April 19

8:00am Decorate the sanctuary for Easter (8:00am until the job is done). Help prepare our worship space for the glorious celebration of Easter.

Sunday - April 20

Easter is here! We worship at 8:00am, 9:30am, 11:00am and 6:00pm.

Easter Pancake Breakfast 7:30am - 11:00am
