Have you ever wondered what makes us as Lutherans different than the other Christian denominations in the world? I thought maybe over these weeks in August we might consider a few of those characteristics and beliefs that make us uniquely Lutheran.
When I served as University Pastor at Pacific Lutheran University, I was often asked to speak on this topic to both adults and students. I often began by saying that it’s not so much that we have unique elements but it is what we hold up as most important to our faith life.
Many of us might have the 11 herbs and spices in our Kitchen pantry, that make KFC chicken taste so good. But it is how those herb and spices are combined that make the recipe of Kentucky Fried Chicken taste so unique.
The same could be said about Lutheranism, we hold many of the characteristics of our other brothers and sister in faith, but it’s how we put those beliefs together and which one we consider more important that makes Lutheranism “taste so good”.
In the next few weeks, join me as we consider what those ingredients are that make us Lutherans.
Blessings,
Pastor Nancy
