Baking is an important part of many holiday traditions. Add a little love to flour, sugar, and butter and you can create all sorts of delights. Whether you are making lefsa, cinnamon rolls, thumb print cookies, or strudel, baking is a participatory Christmas event that brings joy to those in the kitchen and beyond.

In the spirit of Christmas joy, my wife Katie and I are hosting a time of baking together for the St. James community. On Tuesday, December 22, at 7:00 p.m. on ZOOM, we will do a little online “baking show". We will walk you through baking the bread that St. James Lutheran uses for communion.

This is in preparation for our Kitchen Table Candlelight Communion on Christmas Eve at 10:30 p.m. We gather in the safety of our homes to celebrate the sacrament and hear the Christmas message. You can access the worship online or by phone. Links to this candlelight worship can be found on our Online/Phone Communion page (click here).

Baking together will not only get us ready for our Zoom communion, it will also be a lot of fun. Katie is an experienced and good baker. I will be providing ‘help’ - which is most likely to be in the form of comic relief. I hope that you can join us - thanks to the wizardry of technology, we have room for EVERYONE in our kitchen.

I am asking that although our space is unlimited that you register so that we can send you a copy of the baking recipe and the ZOOM link.

In this final week of Advent, I pray that you are safe and healthy. I also pray that you are using the time to prepare your hearts and home for the celebration of God’s gift of love found in the Christ child.

In Christ’s Light,

Pastor Walt
