Car—-what? Does Charis sound “Greek” to you?
Well, it should because it is…. Charis is the Greek word for grace and is the title of one of the new worships that St. James Lutheran is offering this Fall.
In last week’s Ministry Moment, I mentioned that throughout this autumn, there will be four distinct opportunities to worship in-person/online at 9:30 a.m. Each week, we will gather around various liturgies, prayers, and music styles. The variety of liturgical expressions will speak to us in different ways as we celebrate Word and Sacrament.
Charis (pronounced “car-is”) is the most traditional of the forms and emerges from the worship settings of our Evangelical Lutheran Worship Book (the cranberry hymnal in our pews). This will be familiar to many who have worshiped in Lutheran congregations over the last fifteen years. I look forward to celebrating God’s grace with you in this sacred and time-honored liturgy.
Although we will vary the style of worship at 9:30 a.m. each week, at 8:00 a.m. we will maintain our Drive-In standard worship in the parking lot. From the safety and comfort of your vehicle, you can tune your radio in to listen to a spoken Word and Sacrament worship. Since the Delta variant continues to impact Scott and Dakota counties, we will continue this outside worship option throughout the Fall.
Whether you choose to worship in-person, online, or in your car, I look forward to waving to you on Sunday.
In Christ’s Light,
Pastor Walt
