John 3:8
The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Recently my nephew Harry was in North Dakota and was flying a kite, he couldn’t have chosen a better spot !! It seems that the wind is always blowing in North Dakota. Cooling us off from the summer heat but also adding to the snow drifts in the winter!
When I was ordained at First Lutheran in Minot North Dakota the preacher used this text from the Gospel of John for his sermon. He shared that over the years as a pastor the “ wind” or the “spirit” of God would lead me in many ways ,we don’t always know where, but trust in that spirit to guide us. That certainly has proven true.
As St. James prepares for a new pastor we are assured that the Spirit is at work, with the call committee as they go about their tasks of finding candidates, with the congregation as they participate in the needs of this community and in the lives of the future pastoral candidates as they discern where their next call might be.
How blessed we are that as we live out our lives the Spirit of God leads and guides and encourages us along the way.
O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Blessings!
