Along our Way

Summer is often a time filled with motion and emotion. Many are on the move. Some travel. Some move between home and “the lake.” There are some preparing to move away from home to attend college. Others are selling homes they have lived in for years, moving closer to family, downsizing, moving into assisted living settings. Still others are moving through illness. Some will move from this life into the next. There are a great many emotions connected with each of these movements, from great joy to deep sorrow.

But there is a constant in the midst of all this movement. There is One who accompanies us along the way. A poem/prayer by Steve Garnaas-Holmes says it well.

Holy One, you who are in every place,
deeply rooted, who are every place,
yet moving, always on the move,
you who are movement itself,
bless those who are on the move,
moving in body or in heart,
moving to new places, new realities
new challenges.
For all who are nomads,
their belovedness goes with them
in their little bags,
their true belonging in their painted wagon.
Your presence goes with them on the long road,
for you are the road, and the going.
May their leaving be gentle,
their journey be safe,
and their arriving full of joy.
Loving One, your Spirit knows no boundaries,
and goes with us always,
and always we give you thanks.
Trusting your grace, we ask your blessing.
Amen

Whatever paths you move along this summer, know that there is One who travels with you along your way.

Peace,

Pastor Lamont
