Friends in Christ,
This Sunday in our Gospel lesson, Jesus shares a Parable about two sons. The Father asks the first Son to go to the vineyard and work and the son refuses and then later changes his mind and goes to work. The Father then asks his second son to go and work and the second son says yes of course, but then never shows up. Jesus asks the question. Which of the two sons did the Father’s will?
This is indeed a short yet powerful parable, essentially Jesus is saying talk is cheap. We are to put some action with our words. If you are going to talk the talk you gotta walk the walk.
We are given the message to love the Lord with our whole heart and our neighbor as our self.
German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer called talking the talk with out walking the walk is “cheap grace” We are called to witness to God’s love in the world.
We are here to make a difference. We are called to be actively helping, sharing, giving and forgiving. We are called to live in Christ and Christ must live in us. That is what it means to walk with Jesus.
May God who calls us to work in the vineyard give us the strength and compassion to follow.
In God’s love,
Pastor Nancy
